Routine tests during pregnancy
What It's About
From your first prenatal visit until after the birth of your baby, you will be examined regularly by your clinician to make sure both you and your baby are as healthy as can be. At each visit, simple tests like taking your weight, blood pressure, urine and height of your uterus will be evaluated.
A favorite test of every expecting mother is the one that detects the baby’s heartbeat. This is done with a Doppler ultrasound (a small hand held device). Various tests like this can provide exciting and wonderful feedback as to the health of both mom and baby. The Learn more about… section above lists the common and routine tests you may experience as you progress through your pregnancy. There’s also information on tests that may be suggested because of your family history. Just click on any item to learn more about the tests themselves and what purpose they serve.
